The Korean Film Archive is the only nationwide film archive in Korea and was established in Seoul in 1974. As a non-profit organization, its main responsibilities are film collection and classification, film preservation, restoration, film digitization, film screening, etc., and can also provide citation access services such as publication of academic resources, operation of online film databases, and retrieval of Korean film resources. Most of the Korean originals and film copies are kept in this archive. In 1976 the Archive joined the International Federation of Film Archives and in 1985 it was granted full membership.
